BSU rector reprimands ‘Young Front’ activist
On 14 May, the first day of the City Is Ours campaign, launched by the Young Front, a student of the physical faculty of Belarusian State University Yulyan Misiukevich was detained by the riot police. He was accused of using obscene language and fined.
Having passed his summer exams, the youngster was summoned to the university’s personnel department and familiarized with a reprimand issued to him by rector Ablameika. Before this, the student had to write explanatory notes concerning the detention to the dean of his faculty and the rector.
Bear in mind, that City Is Our campaign was launched on 14 May to mark the 15th anniversary of the referendum of 1995, when the national symbols were changed into modified variants of the ones that Belarus used to have during the Soviet times and the Russian language was given the status of the second state language. Young Front activists hanged out white-red-white flags opposite the presidential administration in Kastrychnitskaya Square. Riot policemen detained there Yulyan Misiukevich and Uladzimir Yaromenka.
