Siarhei Kavalenka, Vitsebsk activist of the BPF Conservative-Christian Party, has been fined BYR 770,000 for insulting policemen during his arrest back in July 2010, Radio Racyja reports.
The activist was detained for breaking the house arrest rules - he was 2 minutes late. According to Mr. Kavalenka, the arrest was a precaution measure ahead of the Slavianski Bazaar International Art Festival.
The activist was sentenced to 3 years of home detention for putting a white-red-white flag atop the city’s main New Year tree. The court also ordered Siarhei Kavalenka to pay nearly BYR 5 million of moral damage to the policeman who arrested him.
