The Minsk police keep detaining the activists of the Belarusian Christian Democracy who are collecting signatures for returning St. Joseph’s church to believers.

On 9 September, Liubou Kemeneva and Anton Trafimchuk were detained in Nezalezhnastsi Square. The detainees were guarded to the Maskouski District Police Department, where they were photographed and fingerprinted. The signatures blanks were confiscated from them.

The day before, Yauhen Korsak, Pavel Seviarynets and Siarhei Vasilyeu were detained near the St. Symon and Alena Church in Nezalezhnastsi Square, for the same activity.

In the beginning of September BCD intends to pass the collected signatures to the Presidential Administration, the state enterprise Minskaya Spadchyna (Minsk Heritage) which ‘reconstructs’ the church, foreign embassies and Vatican.

The party intends to start an everyday picketing near the church and a wide solidarity campaign.

Bear in mind that according to the present reconstruction plan the building of the church is meant to be reconstruction into a hotel complex, shops, etc.
