Andrei Sannikau detained in airport
The leader of the civil campaign European Belarus Andrei Sannikau was detained on the way from a high-level international conference in Riga. His passport was seized.
‘I was detained for about an hour. My things were checked, and I was taken through the border again. A search report was drawn up after the search. It was stated there that I was not transporting anything forbidden. Customs officers did not explain their actions in any way. But it is clear that it is the beginning of the presidential campaign. And an apparent pressure is exerted. However, passengers came to me, shook hands, expressed their support,’ Andrei Sannikau said to charter97.org.
On 10 September in the morning Andrei Sannikau was thoroughly searched when he was to start off from Minsk for the conference in Riga. At the conference he met with leaders of the Baltic states and other leading politicians of the EU and the US.
