On 25 September unknown persons detained Yaraslau Hryshchenia, activist of the Young Front youth opposition organization and leader of the Avangard People movement, the Young Front’s press-service reports.

The activist was invited for a conversation by unknown woman, who presented herself as one of the secretaries of Mikalai Statkevich’s initiative group. A few minutes after the meeting, Yaraslau Hryshchenia was detained and forced into a car. The activist was taken to Minsk Tsentralny police department and interrogated by an unknown person, who inquired about the youth’s activities during the election campaign.

After Yaraslau Hryshchenia refused to provide any explanations, the interrogator said that the Avangard People movement was not registered and he might be prosecuted under Article 193-1 of the Criminal Code. Besides, he was warned about possible ‘troubles’ his relatives might face: his mother is a civil servant and his girl-friend is a student at a state university.

The activist was not released until 6 a.m.
