Kanstantsin Zhukouski released after 10-days arrest
On 4 October the member of the organizing committee of the Belarusian Christian Democracy Kanstantsin Zhukouski was released from the pre-trial prison of the Petrykau District Police Department.
He kept a hunger-strike of protest against the groundless arrest during all 10 days of his arrest. On 24 September the Petrykau District Court found Mr. Zhukouski guilty of using obscene language and insubordination to the police and sentenced him to ten days in jail. A week before it the activist was beaten by unknown people at the festival Klich Palessia. As a result he was hospitalized and diagnosed with brain concussion.
Kanstantsin Zhukouski states that the policemen who testified against him during the trial had beaten him at the festival. However, the court ignored this statement and sentenced the activist to arrest, though he had a document that he was still receiving medical treatment to recover from the brain concussion.
’I was on a hunger-strike of protest all these days. There is no sanitation in the prison at all. I wasn’t given an opportunity to wash myself, the light is turned on in the cells day and night and the arrested people have to use the toiled under video surveillance,’ said Mr. Zhukousk.
Meanwhile, he has already filed several applications to the procuracy, complaining against violation of the prisoners’ rights.
