Proposals by Barysau HR activist rejected by CEC
On 20 October, Barysau human rights activist and observer Aleh Matskevich received a reply to his proposals submitted to the Central Election Commission back on 15 October.
In her reply, the CEC Chair Lidzia Yarmoshyna says that the activist tried to establish new legal provisions, which is beyond the authority of the CEC.
According to Mr. Matskevich, the reply is a humiliation, since the CEC tries to avoid any comments on the lack of transparency in election procedures.
‘In my opinion, decision #44 of 15 September 2010 by the Central Election Commission provides a vague explanation on the authority of election commission members. As a result, the majority of commission members are loyal officials,’ says the observer.
