Mahiliou: was there a real sitting for formation of precinct commissions in Leninski district?
This
question is asked not only by the human rights activist Aliaksei Kolchyn, but
by a number of democratic activists, who were nominated to the precinct
election commissions of Leninski district.
According to the information that was posted at the
Leninski District Executive Committee in the morning of 1 November, the sitting
of the DEC at which the precinct commissions were to be formed was to take
place… at 8 a.m. on 1 November!
’It’s quite interesting that I and other democratic activists brought the last
documents to the organizational department of the Leninski District Executive
Committee on Saturday evening and there was no announcement about the place and
time of the sitting. The responsible officers were unable to tell anything
concrete either,’ says human rights defender Aliaksei
Kolchyn.
The human rights defender said that representatives of
democratic organizations that have delegated their candidates to the precinct
election commissions weren’t invited to the sitting though they asked for it in
writing.
’That’s why we have doubts as to whether the sitting
really took place’, says Aliaksei Kolchyn. ‘If the sitting was held, the
proposals of opposition organizations weren’t considered at it. We'll talk with
the leaders of democratic organizations that nominated their representatives to
precinct election commissions to make them appeal against the decisions adopted
at this ‘sitting’ at court, as opposition activists weren’t provided with any
information about the holding of the sitting at all.’
