Babruisk: member of Belarusian Helsinki Committee files complaints to city authorities and Central Election Commission
The
Babruisk member of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee Aliaksandr Leanenka filed
a complaint to the CEC and the Babruisk City Executive Committee in connection
with the refusal to let him observe the formation of election commissions in
the Leninski district.
’The refusal to our representative in the monitoring
during the formation of precinct election commissions violates the legitimate
rights and interests of my organization and me as a private individual,’ –
reads the complaint.
The human rights activist refers to Article 13 of the
Electoral Code of Belarus, according to which the preparation and conduct of
elections is carried out openly and publicly, and also notes that this
principle is also enshrined in Article 65 of the Constitution.
Mr. Leanenka believes that under such circumstances the
election on the territory of the Leninski district may not be public, open and
fair. In his complaint he asks the addressees to hold a check-up concerning the
violation, correct it and draw its perpetrators to account.
