Ministry of Health hushes up truth about radiation in Belarus
The Ministry of Health refused to give information about the level of the internal absorbed dose of radiation for the year of 2009.
As BelaPAN was informed by the Chairperson of a social ecological
public union the Center for Support of
Chernobyl Initiatives, corresponding member of the National Academy of
Sciences, Professor Ivan Nikitchanka,
the refusal concerns the radiation dose received by means of measuring at a
whole-body counter.
’The management of the union only now received a letter from the Ministry of
Health with a refusal to the request made in August’, - said the scientist.
Officials of the Ministry
of Health motivate their refusal by the absence of legal grounds for giving the
requested information to the Center for
Support of Chernobyl Initiatives.
Mr. Nikitchanka considers the action of the Ministry of Health as the
continuation of the policy of suppression of the aftermath of Chernobyl disaster. According to his words,
according to the law about the public associations and charter of the Center for Support of Chernobyl Initiatives
approved by the Ministry of Justice, the social ecological public association
has the right to receive the requested information.
Nikitchanka is planning to apply to one of the capital district courts next week with a suit against the Ministry of Health.
