Vitsebsk Region Election Commission agrees to use transparent ballot boxes
The
commission finally accepted the proposal of the Chairperson of the Vitsebsk
region organization of the Belarusian Leftist Party Fair World Mikalai Selivashka which he had made during the previous
election. However, now they need to find the sources of financing for it.
At present there are several tens of transparent ballot boxes in the Vitsebsk
region – they were used during the previous election in the Haradok district of
the Vitsebsk region and in the Chyhunachny district of Vitsebsk.
’A total of 199 polling stations were formed in the Vitsebsk region. So, we
must quickly find sponsors. It concerns me first of all, as the Vitsebsk Region
Election Commission is the only commission in Belarus that agreed to such an
experiment on my proposal,’ says Mr. Selivashka.
He reminds that transparent ballot boxes could be
borrowed from the Chernihiv region of Ukraine for the previous election,
but the Vitsebsk Region Election Commission didn’t agree to it. Earlier, during
the previous presidential election, the authorities had enough finances to
produce transparent ballot boxes, but the commission refused from this idea and
the money wasn’t used.
