OSCE mission meets Human Rights Defenders for Free Elections activists
On 17 November, representatives of the OSCE election observation mission to Belarus Geert-Hinrich Ahrens, Boris Dyakonov and Aijana Bekkulieva met with the activists of the Human Rights Defenders for Free Elections civil campaign Aleh Hulak, Valiantsin Stefanovich, Hary Pahaniayla, Dzmitry Charnykh and Uladzimir Shcherbau.
The Belarusian human rights activists have presented the OSCE diplomats with progress and weekly analytical reports, covering the current election procedures, as well as major events of the campaign.
The activists told the OSCE experts about the opportunities of maintaining full-scale nation-wide observation of every election stage. The human rights defenders expressed their confidence that all the election procedures should be open for observation. They also added that, observation of signature verification should not be prohibited, despite Article 13 of the Electoral Code, which neither allows nor bans the possibility.
