On 26 November, Ashamiany customs officers seized 115 copies of guidelines for long-term observers from representatives of the ‘Human Rights Defenders for Free Elections’ campaign Uladzimir Labkovich and Zmitser Salauyiou, as they were returning from Vilnius, Lithuania.
The activists were detained for about 5 hours.
‘The authorities have initiated resistance to independent election observation. We call on the staff of Ashmiany customs department to promptly return the guidelines, which are vital for observers’ activities,’ says Uladzimir Labkovich.
