A resident of Babruisk (name
withheld) told human rights defenders about an interesting occurrence.
’Several days ago my car was stopped by a road policeman for violating the
traffic rules. The court sentenced me to pay a fine or spend two days under administrative
arrest. I chose arrest and contacted the local police inspector so that he
could direct me to prison for the weekend. However, he told that I could serve
the arrest only after 23 December. When I asked why, he answered half-jokingly that
till that time all cells would be filled with oppositionists.’
