Hrodna: another detention on the border
The detentions of civil
and political activists continue at the frontier points of the Hrodna region.
In the evening of 2 December the border guards detained Vital Huliak at the
frontier point Babrouniki-Berastavitsa.
Vital Huliak studies in Poland
and was going home for the weekend. When checking his passport the border
guards found out that he had been put on a special list. They thoroughly examined
the car by which he was hitchhiking and the people who were in it and even
composed acts of personal examination on Mr. Hulian and the car driver.
Bear in mind that several administrative cases have been brought against Viktal
Huliak (a member of the United Civil Party and activist of the Speak Truth civil campaign) this year.
On 8 May the police also searched his apartment and took away many things that
belonged to him. Some of them were returned some time later, but the most
valuable – computer, documents and copybooks – haven’t been returned so far.
During the electoral campaign the border guards have already detained many
activists and journalists including Yan Roman, Viktar Sazonau, Uladzimir
Khilmanovich, Vadzim Saranchukou, Yauhen Skrabutan, Yury Istomin, Mikalai
Bausiuk and Yury Humianiuk.
