Mahiliou region: acts about violation of the rules of canvassing drawn on three candidates
The acts about violation
of the rules of canvassing were drawn against three presidential candidates –
Ryhor Kastusiou, Uladzimir Niakliayeu and Vital Rymasheuski. The documents were
passed to the Central Election Commission.
The first act was composed for handing out newspapers Mahiliou za Niakliayeva without imprint and badges, bags, scarves,
notebooks and pens with his symbols. These items were handed out after the electoral
meeting of Uladzimir Niakliayeu of 28 November. As stated by the head of the
Mahiliou Region Election Commission Valery Berastau, the act about this
violation of the Electoral Code was drawn up by members of the Mahiliou
District Election Commission.
’Two acts concern actions of a proxy of Vital Rymasheuski in Babruisk – the first
was drawn up for holing an electoral picket in a place that hadn’t been
determined for it by the local authorities, without informing them about it,
and the second – for handing out leaflets with calls to take part in the rally
in Kastrychnitskaya Square on 19 December 2010 irrespective of the result of
the election,’ points Mr. Berastau.
Another act was drawn up on the presidential candidate Ryhor Kastusiou who held
an electoral picket in Drybin in a place that hadn’t been officially determined
for it by the local authorities. According to V. Berastau, Mr. Kastusiou had
visited the Drybin District Election Commission and familiarized with the list
of the places intended for mass events before holding the picket.
The human rights defender Aliaksei Kolchyn considers the pretensions to
democratic activists to be an attempt of officers of the district and the
regional executive committees to intimidate them and advises them to pay less
attention to it and be more active in their work with the population.
