Lithuanian MFA requires explanations concerning Belarus’ plans to construct a nuclear power plant
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania asks for explanations in connection with statements of Belarusian officials regarding the planned construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. The MFA notes Vilnius still has concerns about the environmental impact of the NPP.
Lithuania considers that the environmental impact assessment of the Belarusian
NPP was not full and stands Lithuania
has not been given answers why the construction site is located just 50 km from
Vilnius.
The MFA note says Lithuania ‘totally disagrees’ with the statement of Minsk on an
‘allegedly completed environmental assessment of the nuclear plant construction
and allegations Lithuania doesn’t have objectives to the environmental
assessment report’.
‘The Ministry […] kindly asks Belarus to give explanations regarding statements of Belarusian officials in connection with allegedly completed environmental assessment of the planned construction of a nuclear power plant and regarding the alleged absence of Lithuania’s complaints at the environmental assessment report,’ says the note of 6 December. A copy of the note was sent to BNS news agency.
