Dzmitry Dashkevich detained again
The leader of the Young Front was detained in Minsk for the second time
during one day on a ridiculous and accusation.
As Dzmitry Dashkevich told BelaPAN, at 7:30 pm on 9 December, a car
of Dahskevich’s friend with Dashekvich, his assistant Anastasia Palazhanka and activist Uladzimir Yeramionak were stopped near the Central Post Office in Sverdlov Street.
Dashekvich was driving the car. ‘A traffic police officer checked my documents
and told me to go to the Kastrychitski District Police Department. They said I
had stolen the car,’ Mr. Dashkevich said.
According to him, an examination was conducted. Dashkevich’s driver’s license was OK and the Belarusian legislation doesn’t require a letter of authorization to drive a car.
Dzmitry Dashekvich decided
not to wait till the examination was the car owned by Palazhanka’s father was
over and left the police office. Ms. Palazhanka remained there to give
explanations to the police.
The activist had to go home by bus. Her father’s car was left near the police
department. The police said the car has to remain their till the end of the
examination.
Dzmitry Dashekvich faced a similar incident on 8 December. The police accused
him of the fraud of the driver’s license. The activist was freed from charges only
after representatives of the OSCE/ODIHR mission had intervened, but the police
detained the car Dashekvich drove, allegedly to check if it was on the stolen
car list.
The youth leader connects such attention to him with the upcoming presidential election and the street action that would be held on 19 December to protest against rigging the election results.
