Homel: students are offered a day-off to vote early
On 10 December the rector of Homel State University Aliaksandr Rahachou held a meeting with students and teaching staff.
The university rector and a student of the faculty of mathematics addressed the audience. They shared their impressions of the Belarusian Congress, to which both had been delegated.
‘The rector and the student virtually agitated for the program of the social and economic development of Belarus that is proposed by the authorities. Aliaksandr Rahachou criticized the alternative presidential candidates, said they were giving empty promises they would never fulfill,’ a student, who visited the meeting, said.
According to him, the
rector called on the students to vote early and offered to cancel lectures on 18
December to give them such an opportunity. ‘It’s notable that some of the
students were against the early voting even in spite of the promises of an
extra day off. The Chairperson of the student trade union Siarhei Aziauchykau took the
floor and said he had spoken to students and they weren’t against early voting
and canceling the lectures. But I didn’t see much enthusiasm among the
students,’ the student added.
