Mahiliou: OSCE observers weren’t let to attend sitting of election commission for coming 2 minutes after its beginning
According to the human
rights defender Barys Bukhel, on 13 December the OSCE observers who came to the
sitting of the Mahiliou Region Election Commission two minutes after its
beginning weren’t allowed to attend it.
’I informed the OSCE observers that the member of the commission representing
the United Civil Party, Uladzimir Parfionau, will struggle for putting on the
agenda of the sitting his proposal on additional plumbing of the ballot boxes and
explaining Ruling #53 of the Central Election Commission (according to which
observers will be provided with a real opportunity to observe the counting of
the votes),’ said Mr. Bukhel.
Mr. Parfionau showed his proposals to the Chairperson of the commission, Valery
Berastau, before the beginning of the sitting. ’The expression of Berastau’s
face changed after he read them. He decided not to let the OSCE representatives
to the sitting in order to prevent them from witnessing the discussion of these
proposals,’ stated Mr. Bukhel. ‘He had a convenient reason for it – the observers
came from another meeting and were several minutes late to the sitting.’
