Minsk Procuracy: the information of the human rights defender has been noted and will be taken into account during the prosecutorial supervision of the ‘case of anarchists’
The Minsk City Procuracy
promised human rights defender Ales Bialiatski to take into account the
information submitted by him concerning the criminal cases of activists of
anarchist and antifascist movements. However, he had to apply to the prosecutor
to make the procuracy answer on the merits of his initial address.
The Vice-President of the International Federation for Human Rights Ales
Bialiatski has finally received an answer to his appeal to the Prosecutor
General of Belarus
that had been submitted by him at the end of October. In his letter he called
him to stop unlawful actions and prevent violations of human rights during the
investigation into the criminal cases that had been brought against activists
of anarchist and antifascist movements in Belarus.
However, before it the application of Mr. Bialiatski was returned to him
without consideration by the Minsk City Procuracy. Taking into account that
there was no clear explanation for such actions and his application corresponded
to the requirements of Article 7 of the Law of the Republic of Belarus
On Applications of Citizens, which
doesn’t provide for the return of an application, Mr. Bialiatski asked the
Minsk Prosecutor Mikalai Kulik to take appropriate measures of reaction.
Only then did the city procuracy consider the document that concerned violations
of the criminal-process legislation by the investigation agencies during the
criminal persecution of a group of citizens representing anarchist and
antifascist movements.
On 6 December Mr. Bialiatski was informed in writing that the ‘submitted
information was noted and will be taken into account during the prosecutor’s
supervision of this criminal case’.
