The organizers of the 19 December Minsk protest rally are likely to face criminal charges, informs the Nasha Niva newspaper, quoting the BelaPAN news agency.
In a statement on the first channel of Belarusian state TV, the Interior Minister Anatol Kuliashou said a criminal case under Article 293 of the Criminal Code (“mass riots”) has been initiated by the Belarusian prosecuting authorities. The minister says over 30 policemen were injured during the rally.
As a result, the political leaders who are charged with leading the unauthorized demonstration may face up to 15 years of imprisonment.
