Authorities try to identify all participants of 19 December protest action
Andrei Mikalayeu, who is
involved in a criminal case initiated by the KGB after the events on 19 December,
has been called to the military counter-intelligence office.
An investigator asked if Andrei had recollected any details relating to the
events near the House of Government. Andrei was showed several tens of photos
and asked if he knew anyone in the pictures, what he could say about those
persons and their behavior.
Andrei Mikalayeu supposes the people in the photos were those not yet
identified by the security services, so they address the already known
demonstrators for help.
Different kinds of security services are likely to have been ordered to
identify all participants of the demonstration on 19 December, whose number is
variously estimated at some 40,000 people. This may be a reason why other
investigators call the people, whose cell phones were detected in the district
where the rally and demonstration were held.
Narodnaya Volia newspaper has earlier written that people are summoned to the KGB and the military counter-intelligence office. It remains unclear whether the military have been involved just to help in finding the names of the demonstrators or whether they will conduct own investigation and send cases to courts.
