Interrogations continue
Policemen have recently phoned or visited families of Mikita Krasnou (an activist of Citizen campaign, election agent of Aliaksei Mikhalevich), Viachaslau Dziyanau (activist of Citizen campaign, election agent of Yaraslau Ramanchuk), Andrei Babitski (election agent of Andrei Sannikau), Uladzimir Kumets (a coordinator of Uladzimir Niakliayeu’s election campaign), Euroradio reports.
'The authorities intimidate relatives of activists to
suppress the opposition. But these actions only turn the public opinion in the
country and abroad to opposition members. Persecution of relatives is
unacceptable. It discredits the Belarusian authorities s in the eyes of the
international society,' Kumets said.
On 7 February the presidential candidate Uladzimir Niakliayeu was taken to KGB
from his house (where he is kept under home arrest). He was interrogated for
about an hour. His attorney, Tamara Sidarenka, refused to tell any details
because the lawyers of figurants of the 'mass riot' case gave written
undertakings not to disclose the information related to the case.
On 8 February Uladzimir Lemesh, an electioneering agent of Andrei Sannikau, was
interrogated at the Savetski District Police Department of Minsk. It was the
second interrogation so far. On 3 February he was interrogated by the KGB in
Salihorsk.
Yuliya Pashko, a civil activist from Brest,
was interrogated at the Brest Region KGB department. On 25 January the sisters
Yuliya and Katsiaryna Pashko were issued with an official warning about
inadmissibility of violation of the legislation, signed by justice advisor
Aliaksandr Tochka. The official reason for the warning was their activities in
the Belarusian Christian Democracy and the participation in the protest action
of 19 December in Minsk.
On 7 February an activist of the Belarusian Christian Democracy Dzianis
Sadouski received a telephone call from investigator Ivan Sanko. The
investigator 'invited' the activist to come for an interrogation at 4 p.m. on 8
February.
