Andrei Yurov, Head of the International Observation Mission of the Committee on International Control over the Situation with Human Rights in Belarus, is going to appeal his persona non grata status in Belarus.

The human rights defenders was detained on 16 March and accused of committing a crime, i.e. entering Belarus, despite his persona non grata status.

During a press-conference on 17 March in Minsk, Andrei Yurov said he tried to explain that he could not know about that, since there is no “border between Belarus and Russia.”

Mr. Yurov says his case is a dangerous precedent, as any Russian national may be prosecuted while entering Belarus.
