Hrodna police issue numerous warnings to local pro-dem activists ahead of Freedom Day
At least eight Hrodna pro-democratic activists have been warned by the city police about possible prosecution for involvement in the 25 March Freedom Day celebrations in Minsk.
Political writer and human rights defender Uladzimir Khilmanovich, who also received a warning by the police, believes that the police violate the Constitutional rights of Belarusian citizens: “All these preventive warnings look simply ridiculous, or even absurd. Firstly, citizens have a right to peaceful assembly. Secondly, the 25 March Freedom Day event has been authorized. And, thirdly, do those who have worked out these of psychological pressure really think that they can intimidate the people who have devoted years for the sake of the Belarusian pro-democratic movement?”
