Homel activist appeals illegal arrest
Homel opposition activist Uladzimir Niapomniashchykh has lodged a complaint with Homel Regional Court, arguing that he was illegally prosecuted for alleged disorderly conduct on 25 March.
The activist was detained by special police agents and sentenced to 3 days of administrative arrest for “using foul language in a public place.”
In his appeal, Mr. Niapomniashchykh says that he did not violate public order, therefore his prosecution was illegal. Besides, the claimant argues that the police record was fraudulent, which was ignored by Homel Chynunachny District Court.
Apart from that, the judge reportedly dismissed the activist’s motion for attendance of witness who testified against him.
“It wasn’t until I was released that I saw the person and he told me in private that he had been released from prison a month before. According to him, a policeman forced him to testify against me”, says Mr. Niapomniashchykh.
