Baranavichy: court dismisses complaint of human rights defender Siarhei Housha
The court of the town of Baranavichy and the Baranavichy district refused to consider the complaint
of human rights defender Siarhei Housha against actions of officials of the
Baranavichy KGB department. This is stated in the answer
mailed to Mr. Housha by Judge Piatro Makadai.
Siarhei Housha filed a complaint on 28 March in connection
with the fact that on 3 February, when he had been summoned to the Baranavichy Town
KGB Department for interrogation as a witness in the so-called 19 December “mass
riot” criminal case, he asked to allow a qualified lawyer, Siarhei Piatrovich,
to represent his interests at the interrogation. However, the KGB officers
V.Tsimafeyeu and V.Halubkou refused to do it without offering any explanations.
At first Siarhei Housha filed a complaint with the head of the Baranavichy Town
KGB Department. However, the Deputy Chair of the Brest Region KGB Department
answered that no violations were found in actions of the officers as a result
of an appropriate check-up. S. Housha disagreed with this assertion and went to
court. Having received such an answer from it, he intends to apply to the
higher instance, the Brest Region
Court.
