Mahiliou: sentence to Maksim Antsypovich left standing
On 12 April Uladzimir Navitaniuk, Judge of the Mahiliou Region Court,
considered the appeal of Maksim Antsypovich against the fine imposed on him for
participation in an unauthorized picket in Mahiliou on 16 January.
Bear in mind that on 8 February the other participants of the picket, civil
activists Valiantsin Labachou and Siarhei Niahatsin were sentenced to 7 and 5
days of arrest respectively, and Natallia Shkadun, a mother with many children,
was issued with an official warning. All of them had taken part in the 16
January picket which lasted just 10 minutes.
The fourth participant of the action, student of the historical faculty of Mahiliou State University,
was punished with a fine of 525,000 rubles (about $175) as late as 3 March. The
appeal against the file was filed to the Mahiliou Region Court on 10 March.
