We express our condolence to victims of the terrorist act and their families
A terrible tragedy – an explosion on the most populous
tube station of Minsk,
Kastrychnitskaya, took place yesterday, on 11 April, at about 5 p.m., in
the rush hour, when many people were returning home. According to information
of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, about 300 people were there at the moment.
As a result, 12 people were killed and about 150 received injuries. Many of
them are youngsters, there is even a two-year child.
The blast was qualified as a terrorist action, and the first reaction to it is
a shock, because such a crime is exceptional for the comparatively quiet Belarus. This
tragedy moved not only our compatriots. It is difficult to imagine who did it
and why. If people die as a result of natural disasters and accidents – it also
brings grief and pain, but in this case some concrete people stand behind this
crime, pursuing their goals, which is terrible.
The Human Rights Center Viasna offers the most sincere condolence to the
families of all victims. We grieve together with our people that will yet have
to realize what has happened and live through it. We hope and believe, that the
perpetrators will be eventually punished, either by court or by God's hand.
