Verdicts in 20 April trial: two arrests, a fine and a rehearing
Yesterday late evening, Judge Volha Komar of Minsk Frunzenski District Court pronounced verdicts to three Vitsebsk and Hronda civil activists, charged with disorderly conduct (using foul language).
As a result, human rights defender Pavel Levinau, previously charged with involvement in the 11 April Minsk metro terrorist act, was sentenced to 10 days of administrative arrest. The same verdict was awarded to activist Aleh Barshcheuski. Mrs. Volha Karach was fined BYR 700,000.
The case of Pavel Staneuski is going to be reheard, after Judge admitted the policemen’s testimonies were extremely inconsistent.
Pavel Levinau asked to suspend the arrest, due to the illness of his mother.
Volha Karach managed to tell the journalists that she had been beaten at the police station.
On 17 February, Judge Volha Komar found Vasil Parfiankou guilty of involvement in the 19 December 2010 “mass riot” and sentenced him to four years of imprisonment in a high security penal colony.
