Opposition activist Siarhei Lukin fled to Poland from frontier checkpoint
Belarusian oppositionist,
activist of the electoral headquarters of Andrei Sannikau Aliaksandr Lukin and
his wife fled to Poland on Wednesday after Belarusian border guards tried to
detain them at the border checkpoint in the village of Slavatychy.
As RIA Novosti informs with a link to
the Polish media, the Lukins were crossing the border to enter Belarus
on Wednesday afternoon. Belarusian border guards tried to detain them, but the
couple fled to a backroom on the territory
of Poland.
The Lukins had two their children and a driver, a Lithuanian national, in their car in Belarus. In some time, the mother returned to the children, while Aliaksandr Lukin remains in Poland.
After the presidential election 2010, Lukin was arrested for 10 days for taking part in an opposition demonstration on the Election Day in Belarus on 19 December 2010. After that he went to France together with his family.
