Dar'ya Korsak: prisoners were threatened with Tasers
Dar'ya Korsak, the wife of the political prisoner
Aliaksandr Atroshchankau, managed to talk to him during the open house day at
the penal colony Vitsba-3.
According to her, the husband confirmed all that had been said by another
prisoner of KGB jail, Aliaksei Mikhalevich. Moreover, the torture stopped after
Mikhalevich's statement, as the KGB probably got afraid of the public response.
Aliaksandr Atroshchankau stated that KGB officers also intimidated prisoners
with Tasers in order to get the necessary testimonies.
Earlier Dar'ya Korsak had applied to the procuracy, demanding to hold a
check-up concerning the allegations of torture in the KGB prison. As she
learned from the husband, an investigator of the procuracy came to the penal
colony. However, when Mr. Atroshchankau started telling about what had been
happening in the KGB prison, the investigator tore down the minutes of the
interrogation. After this, the prisoner stated that he would meet with him only
in presence of his counsel.
Several days ago Dar'ya received a letter from the procuracy where it was
stated that her husband refused to give testimony concerning the facts she had
described in her application. However, she intends to appeal the actions of the
officer of the procuracy and demand holding another check-up.
Bear in mind that Aliaksandr Atroshchankau, the press-secretary of presidential
candidate Andrei Sannikau, had been sentenced to 4 years in a high-security
colony for “participation in mass riot”.
