Piotr Kuzniatsou, leader of For Freedom Homel regional office, has lodged a complaint with the Supreme Court, appealing an earlier fine for distributing leaflets back in January 2011.

The activist was detained by Homel road police, while transporting some 5,000 leaflets covering the 19 December 2010 post-election events in Minsk. He was later fined BYR 700,000 by Rechytsa district court for alleged illegal distribution of printed materials without proper output data.

Mr. Kuzniatsou says the verdict is illegal as leaflets are not periodicals, they did have output data and transportation cannot be viewed as distribution.

The activist submitted the appeal after his earlier complaint had been dismissed by Homel Regional Court.

“This is my last appeal, then I will submit a complaint to the UN Human Rights Committee, since my rights and freedoms were brutally abused”, says Mr. Kuzniatsou.
