Human rights defender asks Ministry of Justice to punish Belarusian National Youth Union (BRSM)
A Vitsebsk human rights defender, representative of
the Belarusian Helsinki Committee Pavel Levinau addressed the Justice Minister
asking to punish the pro-governmental “state NGO” Belarusian National Youth
Union for improper use of its name.
It is the second address by Mr. Levinau – he received a negative answer to the
first one. According to it, the ministry refuse to punish the organization and
confined itself by “informing the administration of the organization about
inadmissibility of such violations”. Meanwhile, the Belarusian Helsinki
Committee was issued with an official warning for the use of abbreviated name
in an address to Gabriela Knaul, the UN Special Rapporteur on independence of
judges and lawyers. It shows that the Ministry of Justice applies double
standards towards “state NGOs” and all others.
