Hrodna: participants of protest action at Bruzgi sentenced to huge fines
According to information from the Hrodna Region Court, about 15 cases were
considered on 14 June. The exact number of cases and amounts of fines is still
unknown. Participants of the protest rally against the unlawful customs fee,
held at the border crossing point Bruzgi on
12 June, were fined 2,450,000-2,625,000 rubles.
Bear in mind that 22 people were detained during the violent dispersal of the
protest action by the police.
At the same time, on 14 June the Chair of the Hrodna Region Executive Committee
Siamion Shapira, who was present during the dispersal of the action, held a
meeting with people in the hall of the executive committee. He answered people’s
questions together with nine more state officials, including the head of the
Hrodna regional customs office Vasil Dzemiantsei and the head of the Hrodna
border guard Ihar Budkevich. About 400 people came to the meeting, which lasted
for about two hours. Shapira called the protest action “medieval barbarism” and
warned the present people about responsibility for the possible protest
actions. No issues were solved as a result of this event.
