At least 240 demonstrators were detained by the police last evening, as several thousand protesters took part in a peaceful rally “Revolution through Social Network” across the country on 15 June.
Violence was reportedly used during the arrests.
The detainees include several journalists – European Radio for Belarus reporter Pavel Sviardlou, Brestskaya Gazeta reporters Stanislau Karshunou and Zmitser Bosak, chief editor of the Vitsebsk People’s News web-site Siarzhuk Serabro, Komsomolskaya Pravda reporter Pavel Mitskevich, BelaPAN reporter Yauhen Sukhaverkhi.
Hronda police detained several Polish nationals, who were later released without charges.
