Hearing of Iryna Khalip’s cassation appeal postponed
Hearing of a cassation appeal by Iryna Khalip, the wife of presidential candidate Andrei Sannikov, has been postponed for a month.
Interfax-Zapad news agency learnt this from the Minsk City Court.
“The appeal will be considered on July 19,” the Minsk City Court said.
The appeal was to be heard on June 21.
Cassation appeal by Pavel Sevyarynets, Vital Rymasheuski’s campaign manager, and Syarhei Martseleu, presidential candidate Mikalai Statkevich’s campaign manager, will be heard on the same day with Khalip’s appeal.
The Zavadski district court of Minsk sentenced journalist Iryna Khalip to 2 years of suspended prison term. Martseleu was given two years’ suspended sentence, Sevyarynets was sentenced to 3 years in an open type prison facility. The three were illegally charged with violating article 342 of the Criminal Code of Belarus (taking part or organizing actions hat breach public order).
