Opposition activist summoned to prosecutor's office for questioning over "insulting" remarks about Lukashenka
Opposition activist Yury Salodki has been summoned to visit the Vitsyebsk Regional Prosecutor's Office for questioning over his remarks that allegedly insult Alyaksandr Lukashenka.
The member of the Movement for Freedom was told to present himself at the prosecutor's office shortly after serving out a 13-day jail sentence over a "silent" anti-government protest staged in Minsk on July 3.
Mr. Salodki, who is formally registered as a resident of Vitsyebsk but currently lives in Minsk, was told by his mother that police officers had attempted to conduct a search at his parents' apartment in the city in northern Belarus. However, they had no search warrant and were not let in.
According to Mr. Salodki, an investigator with the regional prosecutor's office said that he had "left some insulting comments." "He said that the case had been forwarded from the Committee for State Security and he had to check whether I had insulted the president," the activist noted.
Mr. Salodki denied having making any insulting remarks about Mr. Lukashenka.
"I am an active member of the "Revolution through Social Networks" group on Vkontakte, maintain correspondence with Vyachaslaw Dziyanaw," Mr. Salodki said. "Yes, I do comment on something. Yes, I have repeatedly said and continue insisting that Lukashenka was elected illegally. I don't know whether this can be viewed as an insult against the president."
