UN Human Rights Committee admits violation of Civil Alternative co-founders’ rights

The UN Human Rights Committee has released its findings on a complaint submitted by Homel civil activists Uladzimir Katsora, Leanid Sudalenka and Ihar Niamkovich, after their “Civil Alternative” public association was denied registration by the Belarusian government, www.gomelspring.org reports.

In its findings, the Committee considers the facts reported by the activists to be violation of Par. 1 Art. 22 of the International Covenant on civil and Political Rights.

Under Par. 3a Art. 2 of the Covenant, the authors of the complaint have a right to an effective remedy, including re-consideration of their registration application and appropriate compensation.
