Biaroza: human rights defenders intend to hold a picket in support of Ales Bialiatski
Human rights defenders addressed the Biaroza District
Executive Committee asking to permit them holding a picket at 6-7 p.m. on 24
August 2011 in
the officially allowed place, the town stadium.
The aim of the picket is to express protest against the arrest and criminal
persecution of human rights defender Ales Bialiatski and the politically
motivated imprisonment of the civil and political activists for participation
in the peaceful protest action of 19 December 2010, and general discussion of
the situation of human rights in the Republic of Belarus.
Human rights defender Siarhei Rusetski hopes that the authorities will
authorize the action, as the applicants implemented all requirements for such
an action and informed the DEC about it. They also asked to inform them about
the order of paying the expenses for services of the police, medics and public
utilities.
Meanwhile, not a single application for authorization of a street action has
been granted in the town of Biaroza during the recent years.
