Supreme Economic Court turned down appeal of Belarusian Popular Front
On 11 August the cassation panel of judges of the
Supreme Economic Court of Belarus considered the appeal of the Belarusian
Popular Front Party against its eviction from the office in Masherau Street 8,
which its has occupied since 1992.
By the way, the ruling about the eviction came into force even earlier and the
party left the office before 11 August. According to the BPF Chair Aliaksei
Yanukevich, the eviction has a clear political motivation: “The measures
against the BPF are taken simultaneously with the crackdown on all civil
society organizations. For instance, the authorities exercise pressure on the
Belarusian Helsinki Committee and persecute the well-known human rights
defender Ales Bialiatski.”
The politician emphasized that the deprivation of the BPF Party from its office
on Masherau Avenue became revenge for the campaign of solidarity with political
prisoners which had been conducted following the events of 19 December 2010.
The party also intends to lodge a review appeal against the eviction in order
to deplete all legal means of defense.
