Ihar Sluchak sentenced to 3 days of arrest
On 30 August Judge of the Savetski District Court of
Homel Shaustruk found Ihar Sluchak, a member of the United Civil Party, guilty
of using obscene language in public (Article 17.1 of the Code of Administrative
Offenses). He was sentenced to 3 days of arrest (which he served awaiting the
trial) and was released from custody right in the court hall.
Ihar Sluchak was detained on 26 August, allegedly because he beat and insulted
a passer-by. However, he is convinced that the real reason is his public
activities. For instance, he intended to discuss the ways to reform the
Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Witnesses of the accusation gave addle testimonies. The “victim” whom Sluchak
had allegedly beaten, has been drawn to administrative responsibility 7 times.
The riot policemen who had detained the defendant gave contradictory
testimonies as well. According to one of them the incident took place at 3.30 –
4.00 p.m., according to the other – at 4 p.m.
