Collective appeal to UN concerning unlawful actions of Homel City Executive Committee
Activists of the Trade Union of Radio Electronic
Industry lodged a collective complaint to the UN against repeated violation of
freedom of peaceful assemblies by the Homel CEC which groundlessly refused to
authorize street rallies.
The legal inspector of the trade union Leanid Sudalenka said that the complaint
was filed after all national means to protect lawful interests of the
discriminated citizens had been depleted.
“We ask the UN Human Rights Committee to recommend the government of the Republic of Belarus to put the ruling of the Homel
CEC in line with the international legislation. Let me remind that this ruling obliges
citizens to conclude agreements with the police, medics and public utilities
for serving street actions. This ruling also permits holding street actions
only in one place in a city with the population of 500,000 people.”
In their complaint TUREI members also draw the attention of the UN Human Rights
Committee to violation of their right to a fair trial.
