Search at Ales Kalita's apartment
On 5 September the apartment rented by a member of the
Belarusian Popular Front Party was searched by the police. This information was
voiced by Aliaksei Yanukevich, BPF Chair. Earlier Ales Kalita had been
interrogated within the framework of the criminal case instigated against him
and two other BPF members, Maksim Hubarevich and Siarhei Semianiuk, for beating
a guard.
The incident had taken place on 13 August. The suspects state their innocence.
According to them, guard Aleh Hordys was drunk and started clinging to Ales
Kalita, trying to insult him. “We calmed him down and he want away by a taxi
which we called for him,” recalls Siarhei Semianiuk.
“This case has a clear political motivation. The police arrived right after the
incident, though nobody called it. I stated that I had no pretensions to this
man who threatened to me, because he is an elderly man... But why did they
bring a case then? Probably, the regime is trying to deprive the party of
active members,” commented Ales Kalita.
Siarhei Semianiuk is also convinced that its is a provocation similar to the
one that was organized against Zmitser Dashkevich and Eduard Lobau who were
sentenced to 2 and 4 years of jail for alleged beating of strangers.
