Homel: four people detained for collecting signatures
At about 7 p.m. in Yubileinaya Street in Homel the police
detained four civil activists who were collecting signatures for holding the
People's Assembly in Homel on 8 October in order to discuss the political and
economical situation and set forth proposals and demands to the authorities.
One of the detainees, Pavel Pryvalau, said they were taken to the police
station in Savetskaya Street,97.
They are interrogated by police major Koshman, head of the law and order
section of the Chyhunachny District Police Department of Homel. Koshman said
that the activist were detained because of a complaint of one of the signers
that the activists collected the signatures in an improper way.
Kastus Zhukouski, a representative of the Our Alternative campaign who
collected signatures as well, thinks that the authorities are trying to trade
in political prisoners with the West on one hand and smother all civil
initiatives of the electorate on the other.
