Street actions in support of Ales Bialiatski held in Biaroza and Brest
Human rights defenders of Biaroza held an action in
support of the arrested Chair of the Human Rights Center Viasna Ales
Bialiatski. Leaflets with the slogan "Freedom to Ales Bialiatski!"
were handed out in the most populous place – at the city market.
An action participant Siarzhuk Rusetski thinks that those who received the
leaflets will know the truth about Ales Bialiatski. According to the local
human rights defenders, at present people know something about imprisoned
defendants in the "19 December mass riot" case, whereas they know
almost nothing about Ales.
The action was held without any incidents. Only one person refused to take a leaflet.
A similar action was held in Brest.
Human rights defenders Uladzimir Malei and Yury Zhydovich handed out leaflets
with a description of Bialiatski's activities and the present charges against
him.
Let us remind, Ales Bialiatski had been arrested on 4 August. He is charged
with the concealment of profits on an especially large scale and can be
punished with up to 7 years in jail with the confiscation of assets.
