The Belarusian Helsinki Committee has received an
answer to his request to hold a check-up concerning the statement of the former
presidential candidate Andrei Sannikau about tortures in the remand prison of
the KGB.
In this answer A. Khalimau, investigator of cases of great importance at the
Belarusian Military Procuracy, stated that no criminal case would be instigated
on this statement because of the absence of corpus delicti. H also informed the
human rights defenders that materials of the check-up couldn't be revealed to
the public as some of this information contained a state secret.
The BHC, in its turn, believes that such materials cannot be secret and intends
to demand access to the results of the check-up.
