Statkevich’s wife reports torture in prison

According to the partner wife of former presidential candidate Mikalai Statkevich, the imprisoned politician has been repeatedly subjected to inhuman treatment while serving his term at Shklou penal colony, the BelaPAN news agency reports.

No information about Mr. Statkevich has been received for two months, says Mrs. Adamovich. “Former prisoners say he is convoyed to the canteen. I do not know what is going on there. There was a minute-long phone call to his father and another short call to his daughter. I can’t call him and there are no letters from him”, says she.

According to Mrs. Adamovich, Statkevich has an arm problem; however, he was forced to occupy the upper berth, which extremely painful. Besides, the colony administration interferes with their official marriage, referring to the loss of Statkevich’s application.

“He has been subjected to inhuman treatment. This can be considered as torture under the international laws”, says Mrs. Adamovich.
