Minsk: detention of IISEPS director Aleh Manayeu
On 6 October Aleh Manayeu was arrested by special
purpose troops near Peramoha
Square in Minsk.
Radio Svaboda learnt this from Aliaksandr Sasnou, an expert at the Independent
Institute of Socio-Economic and Political Studies (IISEPS).
Manayeu was leaving a metro station. He managed to say he was searched for
weapon and drugs. After that he was taken in an unknown direction.
Aleh Manayeu is the head Independent Institute of Socio-Economic and Political
Studies (IISEPS), which is registered in Lithuania.
The IISEPS has recently published results of its September poll, according to
which only 24.5% of respondents trust Aliaksandr Lukashenka and 62.3% do not
trust the head of state.
Manayeu was kept in detention for about three hours, during which he was to
have been present at a briefing of
foreign diplomats.
